Kylie Jenner's Meta Smart Glasses Parodied in Guerrilla Lenticular Ad
this is crazy.
An activist group called Everybody Hates Elon has placed a lenticular spoof ad at a bus stop near Meta's London headquarters.
An activist group called Everybody Hates Elon has placed a lenticular spoof ad at a bus stop near Meta's London headquarters. The ad shows Kylie Jenner in what first appears to be a standard Meta smart glasses campaign image — but walk around it, and the picture flips into a bug-eyed skeleton, the text reading: “We're always watching.”
“Meta has spent years tracking us online. Now it wants to track us in the real world too.”
The skeleton is a direct nod to the 1988 John Carpenter film They Live — the one where a drifter discovers that the ruling class are aliens in disguise. It is the perfect cinematic reference for a piece of guerrilla advertising that is itself about the act of seeing, and being seen, from the wrong angle.
The technique is lenticular printing — a specialty process that shifts the image depending on the viewing angle. The same physical trick that animated baseball cards and cereal-box holograms, here turned into a surveillance warning at a bus stop. The medium is the message: the act of walking past, pausing, looking again, and realising the image is not what it first seemed. That moment of double-take is the whole argument.
The group Everybody Hates Elon has previously targeted Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Donald Trump, but this time the target is Meta's smart glasses — devices that have gained a reputation as “pervert glasses” for their use in secretly recording women. The backlash has been severe enough that some owners now say they are afraid to wear them in public.

this is the kind of intervention that works because it is small, physical, and real. a bus stop. a passersby. a second look. is that enough against the scale of what is being rolled out, or is it the last version of a tactic that no longer scales?

Until the next transmission.
